Today the AAFL lair is moving from Hollywood to Boston for a minimum of 2-3 years, and possibly longer. The drive cross-country will take several days, during which I will probably not have much time to check the news and formulate new posts, much less find WiFi access so I can publish those entries. That isn't to say I won't try, but I thought I'd give everybody the heads-up.
Though Los Angeles has been my home for more years than I care to count, I am excited about this move. Boston was in many ways the center of revolutionary activity leading to U.S. independence and, perhaps more relevant to this blog, was a hotbed of 19th century abolitionist activity, including leading-edge abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison's unrelenting publication of The Liberator for about 35 years (a modern reader might like to think of this paper as the original abolitionist "blog"). It seems fitting that I will be advocating for animal rights and the abolition of animal exploitation in an area with such a rich history of political activism on behalf of freedom.
I don't believe I've mentioned it here yet, but I'm working with an area resident to launch the Boston Vegan Association, a community-based organization founded to unite local vegans and empower them to work toward ending the exploitation of animals by promoting veganism in the Boston area. I hope you'll visit the BVA website, register as a user, sign up as a member and join us in our mission. At the very least we will be grateful for your donation, as we need every penny we can get to ramp up our operations.
I look forward to continuing An Animal-Friendly Life from an East Coast time zone!
