Coincidentally, I was ruing my Long Island vegan options (I'm staying out that way), which as far as I knew consisted solely of Zen Palate. Having already eaten there once this vacation, and twice the last time I was out here, I poked around a little more to see if I couldn't find something new.
Much to my glee, I discovered House of Dosas, which did not let me down in the least. Not only did it not take me long to get to the Hicksville (he-he) location, which is mere blocks from yet another vegetarian South Indian restaurant, Dosa Diner, but it was also really, really good.
My spinach and potato dosa hit the spot, along with some very tasty chana masala and roti, all of which was made without dairy. The vada I ordered with sambar as an appetizer came quickly, and it was quite good, and held me the brief time it took for the rest of the meal to arrive.
While the place isn't much to look at, and it was a bit noisy with several young children and one large group, the cafeteria-style set-up and short wait for a table add a certain vibrancy to the place. I was content.
Tomorrow I will struggle valiantly to get from the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn to the opposite end of town in order to eat lunch and dinner someplace interesting, much less vegan-friendly.
