You may remember an earlier post where I mentioned that the EU was considering improvements to animal welfare standards. Today the European Commission approved a five-year plan that includes better farm inspection procedures and a commitment to search for alternatives to animal testing.

This plan still isn't set in stone; it must be approved by the European Union's executive body and the governments of the EU nations.
