Animal rights group urges Ariel Sharon to go vegetarian

Posted by Eric @ 3:26 PM

Jerusalem Post

This article is somewhat ironically written by Joseph Flesh, I kid you not.

Anonymous for Animal Rights has taken a page from the PETA handbook:
Israeli group Anonymous for Animal Rights has sent a letter to PM Ariel Sharon urging him to become vegetarian. Included with the letter was a pamphlet called Easy Vegetarianism.
Evidently Mr. Sharon has gout:
Gout is caused by a buildup of uric acid in the joints. The liver produces uric acid as a byproduct of consumption of rich foods, such as red meat, cream, and red wine.
Sounds like going vegan would do him some good. The article includes a picture of battery-caged hens to nail home that he could do some good for the animals as well.

UPDATE: Looks as if Mr. Sharon is in the hospital again in serious condition after experiencing another stroke. While I hate to jump in with any comments while he's in this condition -- it does seem tacky -- the following caught my eye:
Mr Sharon, who has been prime minister since 2001, is severely overweight.
The PM has made significant policy changes over the last couple of years, and I like where he's been heading, but his health threatens a lot more than just his own fate. I hope he recovers enough to return to government, and I do hope for the sake of his health (if nothing else), that he'll take the advice of AAR (and hopefully his doctors) by adopting a strict vegetarian diet as soon as possible.
